A sudden hit of inspiration has got me changing my style, skincare and homeware for the new season.
October is here, and with that a mood change seems to have come over me. This feels hard to explain, so bear with while I try: it feels like the self-reflection work I’ve been putting in over the course of 2020 has suddenly given me clarity and inspiration on some more surface-level change I want to see in my style, skincare, makeup and home. Have you ever experienced this? I feel like since I cleared my wardrobe out I have suddenly been hit with a sense of clarity on new styles I want to try, which has led to a makeup update, a new skincare approach and even updating my playlists. It’s a whole thing.
It probably helps that I’ve come off my pill too – unfortunately I don’t have any updates to offer you on my birth control journey, but trust me you’ll be the first to know when I do. For now, I’m feeling things out slowly and taking my time with it all.
It feels weird to write a blogpost about something deep that isn’t that deep but hey, it feels like a mood worth sharing? If you’ve come over this way too, I hope this post can inspire you to embrace those changes!
Autumn Style Inspiration: New Neutrals
In addition to my autumn blogpost curating my favourite pieces, I’ve got a mental wish list in my head for some of the pieces I’d love to pick up this A/W that I can’t shake. I feel clearer in my style more than ever; I’m still a neutral-loving woman (some things never change) but I’m really drawn to new cuts, fabric and patterns at the moment. I also may or may not need a shacket intervention.
Makeup: Nineties, Natural And Cruelty-Free
One of the biggest changes is in my makeup. I’ve worn the same products in the same style for years – matte lips, single-colour shadow and powder bronzer to name some of my staples. However, suddenly something has come over me and I’m really keen to change things up. When I’m getting dressed up, I want to embrace the brown pencil liner, glowing skin and glossed up lips – anything nineties glam. Dressed down, I’m keen for the natural look with as little as possible on. As per, all of the skincare, makeup and body products I use are cruelty-free.
Hydrating, Acne-Ready Skincare
Now that I’m off my pill, I want to finally get my skin looking like the mad, hydrated dolphin I truly am without the dehydration I have struggled with for the past eight years. As I’m preparing for a pretty rough return to acne, (thanks, hormones) I’m leaning towards a simple routine made up of sensitive-skin-friendly products, which I hope will care for my skin and keep it calm – something I could really benefit from as we head towards winter. I also opened the Victoria Beckham x Augustinus Bader Cell Rejuvenating Moisturiser that I was kindly sent the other day and let’s just say I’m never going to be able to look at another moisturiser in the same way again. It’s beautiful, and I don’t know what I’ll do once I finish the bottle.
Homeware: Warm and Cosy
Everything that’s been going on this year has made me want to cosy up in my bedroom this autumn and spend some more time with myself. I’m excited to spend a fair portion of my autumn under a blanket on the sofa, reading, journalling, or watching Emily In Paris with a candle burning. Big autumn energy incoming.
I’ve felt a shift in my makeup wearing too ! Since lockdown, I still love wearing it but love my more natural makeup routine. Have fallen in deep love with concealer, a bit of powder, mascara and lipgloss !
